fast and furious

22 February 2009 ;23:56

"No man in the world has more courage than the man who can stop after eating one peanut."
//Channing Pollock

Said like a wise man indeed. So as usual in February, our family gathered for the annual gorging on seafood to celebrate our cousins' and grandmother's birthday. It was AWESOME, really. I had like a mountain of drunken prawns, two helpings of salted-egg crab, a plate full of scallops with kai lan (healthy okay), about five mantous, two guilty glasses of coke and a slice of vanilla ice-cream cake to wash down everything. It was terrible, our table was eating like there was no tomorrow.

And my cousins are so darn adorable la! Aww, just look at them haha :) It was also good to catch up with my older cousin KW who was going back to Australia and to reminisce with KY about the times when we were still young and we played stupid games together haha. KY was lamenting, "Oh noooo, we're hitting the BIG 20, we're officially ooooooldddd!"

The next day, went with Rachel for some cheap-thrill-retail-therapy at Fash Bash! It was really good because we went there pretty early before the place got crowded. Rachel managed to get some really good buys (Miss Selfridge shorts for $5! Pull & Bear dress for $12!) and I got a Zara top for $15! The people there were really nice and friendly also haha, quite willing to bargain with us :) All in all, it was fun because all the things we bought fit us pretty well haha, so we didn't waste any time or money! Then we walked around Vivo some more, haha trying to keep our shopping momentum going. But it was at pull & bear that I found my one true love!

Okayy, I'll admit it doesn't look as good in the picture, but in real life, it was like fast and furious love! THE CAMERA DOES'NT DO IT JUSTICE, IT'S REALLY DAMN BEAUTIFUL. Everyone should go to pull & bear to like get a glimpse and gently caress this beauty. Too bad, it's wayy too expensive for me, I would have willingly given up a month's lunch money for this jacket lah.

Then went to meet Chris for dinner (haha, like two times in one week already lah) at Bugis. Luckily he knows all the foodie places, otherwise we'll end up going to like aston's or some place which we've been to like a thousand times before. And the great thing is that, he always dispenses good advice with the good food. You know the lyrics to 'Stop and Stare' are actually very meaningful? It says "Stop and Stare, you think you're moving, but you go nowhere." Sometimes, we think that it's okay and we have moved on, but actually we're going no where. So if he's confused about what he wants, you have to be certain of what you want and need, and not let him affect you. How true.

Anyway, he brought us to like this whole back street at Bugis where there are rows and rows of good food. So we had duck rice at You Kee and dessert at Ah Chew's Dessert House, which is apparently his favourite dessert place haha. That's watermelon sago dessert by the way, and it's PINK. Haha, such a happy colour that I couldn't resist taking a photo! And to top off the let's-eat-alot-of-rich-good-food-week, I had an ice cream cone at Mac's!

food, friends, fun. what more can a girl ask for?

the dangers of nostalgia

//the dangers of nostalgia
the more you love a memory, the stronger and stranger it is
Valdimir Nakabov

for real, for real, it's all over. no more misunderstandings, no more twisted feelings, no more nights spent on a deck chair by the pool wondering why he won't pick up the phone. for my friends who've suffered patiently the agony of being with me, thank you. i would have found it hard to live with me too. thanks for those who smsed, who let me bug them on the phone, who asked me out to lunch, who were more than he could ever wish to be. i owe you a summertime ice-cream! haha, come find me, i'll treat you to one, really REALLY.

but it's been a weight off my heart for the past two days. for like the first time in weeks, i've been truly, truly unencumbered. relieved. i don't have to wonder if he's busy, if i'm bothering him, if this thing has a future. it's time for the head to come out of the clouds, and for the feet to be rooted back into the ground. we were just the wrong people for each other, that's the long and short of it, and while i'll keep the memories safe, i know now, that there is no turning back. so i don't look around when i get on the mrt, i keep my head down when we get to simei and i delete the smses one-by-one, starting from the back.

thankfully, i sent off laoda at the airport on sunday. and i met up with the soccer people on vday so it wasn't so bad. then smu law never fails to amaze with the amount of work they can pile onto you. so legal memo, client advice letter and TORT EXAM (OHTHEAGONY) have all done their part in being a major distraction. kinda keeps you from moping around the house like some mopey, aimless fool OR even better, keeps you from morphing into an avenging angel hell-bent on revenge when couples routinely float in front of you in their lovesick haze. i swear, it's tough to keep yourself from picking up a stick and whacking the daylights out of particularly annoying couples flaunting the expensive $200 restaurant they went to on vday. yes, perhaps they were looking to experience the kind of timeless, infinitely romantic atmosphere that only a $200 eatery packed full with millions of other lovers can provide. after all, deep love for each other on vday's is best expressed by consuming a vastly overpriced meal near a large window, while making sure that other like-minded couples in the near vicinity can see how loving yall are by constantly cooing like birds and feeding each other morsels of food. haha, sorry, that was the single's rant, i'll stop now :)

but you learn something after all.
look before you jump. and as chris said, don't rush love.
