windy day

28 August 2010 ;10:01

"Summer was our best season: it was sleeping on the back screeneed porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the treehouse; summer was everything good to eat; it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape."
//Harper Lee; To Kill a Mockingbird

Photobucket
Our trip to Marina barrage! We really went at the right time cos there were dark clouds and it looked like it was going to rain but in the end it didn't. Haha, so it was really cool and windy and was no sun!

Photobucket
Our nicest photo taken! Haha, before Weilin's camera ran out of battery hahaha.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
My greedy face! Only because the pancakes I make are nice okay, for proof see Shiyi's extremely happy face!

Photobucket
Haha, and we saw the cutest bunch of boys kicking an apple around. They were super super excited about the apple lah that they were trying to throw it at the girls haha. The mom who packed it for her son's lunch must be super sad that her apple became a football in the end.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
And see our super artistic shots haha! Mine looks like some movie poster for the day after tomorrow right! Haha, Shiyi and Weilin look like they're doing modelling for a blogshop, the dress makes Weilin super tall next to longlegsshiyi!

freedom

19 August 2010 ;09:37

"It seemed to me that if we were going to be elevating freedom to be the defining principle of what we're about as a culture and a nation, we ought to take a careful look at what freedom in practice brings. One of the ways of surrendering freedom is to actually have convictions. And a way of further surrendering freedom is to spend quite a bit of time acting on those convictions. [There is something beyond freedom that people need: work, love, belief in something, commitment to something. Freedom is not enough. It's necessary but not sufficient. It's what you do with freedom - what you give it up for - that matters]."
//Jonathan Franzen; The Wide Shot (Time Magazine)

Just feel like there's been a lot of upheaval in the first week of school for some reason. It's easy when you're in the safe sanctuary of people who know and love you for who you are. It's no longer the same when you're out there. I just hope my last two years of law school will be so full of memories that when I leave, I can say that not every step of the way was easy, but every step of journey was worth the pain.

abiding

15 August 2010 ;21:03

"While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time: "This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it — the LORD is his name. 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'"
//Jeremiah 33:1-3 (NIV)

I will abide in you and no one else. For my strength is in you and you only. You make my feet like the feet of deer and you enable me to go on the heights. So that when the test comes, I will not have to hide my fear and my pain. I will be open and come before you and place all my hurt, pain and disappointment at the altar. For what I have placed at the altar, I can also take back. But this time, I'm not going to. This time, I'm not looking back.

dew

9 August 2010 ;22:22

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed for myself, that they may proclaim my praise."

//Isaiah 43: 18-21 (NIV)

Just when you think you know it all, He never fails to surprise you. I never fail to be amazed by the hearts of women. That we carry so many burdens on our shoulders, bury so much of our pain and hurt, have so many needs that fail to be met. And over the weekend, I saw so many old wounds resurfaced, so many tears shed, so many of these hurts ministered to. The courage, honesty and hunger of these women really moved me deeply.

And above all, I'm so glad that I took the time off to do business with Him. That I laid down all that I needed to at the altar, that I allowed the grief and the hurt to be surfaced and healed, and that I'm ready to move beyond where I am right now. There must be more than this, more than everything I've seen and known thus far, and I'm ready to go further than this.

chances

6 August 2010 ;00:50

"Everyone underestimates their own life. Funny thing is, in the end, all our stories… they’re the same. In fact, no matter where you go in the world, there is only one important story: of youth, loss and yearning for redemption. So we tell the same story, over and over. Only the details are different."
//Rohinton Mistry; A Fine Balance

I fall down all the familiar potholes, step into all the same snares and scab my knees in all the old places. And yet you always seem to give me another try.
