week-eight.

25 February 2011 ;23:57

"I wish in the city of your heart you would let me be the street where you walk when you are most yourself. I imagine the houses: It has been raining, but the rain is done and the children kept home have begun opening their doors."
//Robley Wilson

I'm not done with the week yet. There are so many more things that need to be done. Like sitting in a coffee house with my books for hours on end, like listening to acoustic guitars and gravelly voices in dark, quiet spots with best friends and amazing food, like going for a night drive with my ipod for miles and miles to stretch until I wind up alongside the beach front in the early morning. But still, I loved the moments that I had to spare. The moments when I discovered chaos, uncertainty and quarks and realised the immense possibility of this world, the moments when we winded up having ice-cream talking of the things we had not yet left behind, the moments where we shrieked our hearts out in the absolute neurotic mess of a psycho-ballet film.

704 odd days before we move on again. I can't bear to let go, just yet.

(500) days of summer

23 October 2009 ;10:24

Question: So what is love to you?
Paul: Err, I met Robin when we were in 6th grade and we've been together ever since. Technically, the girl of my dreams would have a really bodacious rack, and she would be more err into sports. But Robin's better than the girl of my dreams. She's real.
//Paul; (500) days of summer

I finally got to watch (500) days of summer and it was quite simply amazing. I would have liked it better if some parts of the movie were tighter, but oh the love of joseph and zooey combined is pretty unstoppable. it's also a pretty strange show, cos it ended off kind of happy still, but when the credits rolled, I really really felt like crying. so it's that kind of movie haha, where you're not sure whether the directors wanted you to smile or cry.

but there were definitely parts I could identify with (the Ikea shopping! and the Chinese family staring!) and parts that made my heart ache (where JGL tries so hard to get zooey to smile but she's so distant and unable to tell him why). and this whole thing about finding THE ONE started off a rather nonsensical debate with Jojo about how we can tell when we meet THE ONE! haha, he doesn't come with trumpets and lights and big shining hearts so how do we know? but the saddest thing that Jojo said is sometimes you may meet THE ONE but it doesn't work out so you move on to someone else. but in your heart, you know you've missed the one person who was the lock to your key, the banana to your pancakes, the soul to your mate. Is that true? Or does not being able to not being able to work it out mean that the person wasn't really the One?

in truth then, the saddest thing is not that you loved someone and he didn't love you back. it would be that you both loved each other, and yet weren't able to work things out.

"Loneliness as a situation can be corrected but as a state of mind, it is an incurable disease."
//Valdimir Nakabov

headed out to bedok with jojo ytd to complete the surveys for our CIP and damn, I think we've been cheated by them. haha, what own time own target, at the rate that we're finding the houses, it's going to take forever just to get 100 addresses la. but oh well, we saw a side of singapore that we don't see often when they're touting f1 races, ion orchards and IRs. a few of the addresses were actually 1-room flats with very warm and welcoming aunties who told us a bit of their life story while we were trying to do the survey and there were two car-washing uncles who gave us wrong directions were very helpful! but we walked until we just wanted to collapse la, cos all the HDB blocks are arranged weirdly. like 17, 18, 19 then cannot find blk 20 or even worse, we get to the right block but the lift doesn't go to the flat cos it's divided into two sides. so you must walk one whole round just to get to the other side haha. well, at least we had a fun time using jojo's huge pink umbrella and chitchatting all the way.

then rushed all the way to lido with mogu to watch the premiere of harry potter and the half-blood prince. free tickets and free chocs from cadbury ! haha, but I was so sweaty and hungry cos no time for dinner, in the end we just snacked on subway cookies. hmm, but cos both of us don't read the book, we didn't know what the heck was going on half the time. and there's lot of teen romance in this part la which was abit boring I think, not as action-packed as the last time. and after the movie, we got a happy meal to go cos I was so damn hungry!

and on wed, managed to get complimentary tickets to watch sunshine cleaning. it's a good movie though I think they didn't tie up some of the loose ends. amy adams and emily blunt are both awesome actresses! spoiler alert, but there's this amazing scene where nora (emily blunt) goes trestling and she sticks her face right below the railway track. and as the train thunders past, she's screaming with joy but there's tears running down her face, I thought it was a really good scene. the first movie that I cried properly at (real tears with awkward groping in the dark for a tissue) since Infernal Affairs haha.

all in all, it's been an upandown week. had fun hanging out at chinatown with rach looking for vintage charms, going back to tjc with wl & sy for comfort food, strolling arab street and haji lane with mogu and spending nothing to watch two movies! trying my best to be occupied all the time, but still waking up at weird times for no reason at all with heartpangs. which makes me tired in the morning, and spoils my plan to get rid of eyebags!

come back soon, the sun doesn't shine as bright when you're not around.
